Love at first sightTheresia von Guttenberg travelled around the world during the Eighties in search of a little piece of paradise by the sea, where she could live and work. In 1987, it was love at first sight when she first laid eyes on Porto Santo and the people there. She founded and managed the Residencial Theresia with great joy over the decades until today. Her motto is: "With people for people". Theresia's daughter, Regine von Guttenberg, was so fascinated by the beauty of this special little piece of earth in 1988 that she spent practically all of her holidays there from then on. In 2004 she moved to Porto Santo and is now in charge of the management of the guesthouse.
When she has the time, Regine is always up for "fun and games" with younger and older children: be it a chat, a hike, a game of beach ball or a dinner. Regine speaks German, English, French and Portuguese.
Rita Agostinho Fernandes has been with us since 2007. She is always cheerful and helps Regine with all the work around the house and the garden. She's the one on the right in the photo with part of her family and her little boy, Pedro, who loves to play football. Rita also performs two forms of Madeiran folk music, the "Bailinho" and the "Despique". If you ask her nicely, she might sing you something. She speaks Portuguese and English. Our cat, Morle, is also a very important member of the staff at the Residencial Theresia! She spends all day reminding us of how wonderful it is to simply do nothing. She likes to be stroked and cuddled if you give her time to get used to you and will often come in and sleep under your bed if you leave your doors or windows open at night... |
